In professional recruitment, attention is limited.
Scouts do not analyse footage passively—they assess quickly, often within the first 60–90 seconds. This is where most players fail to present themselves effectively.
The 3-minute rule is simple: your strongest actions must appear immediately.
Opening sequences should demonstrate positional clarity, decision-making under pressure, and technical execution. Clips that lack context or tempo dilute the overall impression and reduce engagement.
Structure is critical. A well-constructed reel progresses logically—early touches, movement patterns, and decision-making before introducing more complex scenarios.
Clarity also matters. Over-editing, excessive effects, or poor clip selection will undermine credibility.
A scouting reel is not a highlight video. It is a technical document.
When executed correctly, it provides a clear, immediate understanding of the player’s level and suitability within a professional environment.
